Anele Mdoda Overjoyed by Oscar Nomination
Media personality Anele Mdoda is over the moon after her short film, “The Last Ranger”, received an Oscar nod!
On Thursday, 23 January, the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were announced, and “The Last Ranger” – which shines a spotlight on rhino poaching in South Africa – bagged a nomination in the Live Action Short Film category.
Mdoda, who served as an executive producer for the film, expressed her excitement on Twitter/X, posting:
“South Africa!!!! We have been nominated for an Oscar!!!!!!!!!!! The Last Ranger is going to win it and bring it home. [sic]”
She also gave a shout-out to director/writer Cindy Lee, co-writer David Lee, and stars Avumile Qongqo and Liyabona Mroqoza, while expressing gratitude to her fellow producers.
“Salute to my fellow Executive Producers, Will Hawkes & Darwin Shaw for opening a door I never thought I would be worthy to walk through [sic],” the 40-year-old added.
Let’s hope “The Last Ranger” brings the Oscar home to South Africa – we’ll have to tune in to the Academy Awards on 2 March to find out!
